Smoky Mountain American Society for Training and Development

Letter from the President

Getting back to our roots of making this world better through workforce learning and performance has not been easy, but we are making progress. And the response so far has been overwhelmingly positive. We are re-building our Smoky Mountain ASTD chapter from the ground up, and we believe you will see some extraordinary changes taking place. Why? Because we are getting back to our mission.

Our Mission

"Through exceptional learning and performance, we provide opportunities for training and development professionals in our community that help these professionals work better." Our chapter is dedicated to serving you, the workforce performance and learning professional. The 2008 Board of Directors has created a number of programming and networking options for this purpose. If you have not had the chance, check out our Membership Luncheons page at this web site. Our 2008 programming schedule is a clear indicator that we turned back to serving our profession in the Knoxville and surrounding communities in an extremely tangible way.

An Open Invitation

We invite you to be a part of this time of re-focusing our mission. We believe that, as the local chapter of ASTD, we can meet your professional development needs as a training professionalwhatever your level in the industrynew hire, in-class facilitator, online learning developer or chief learning officer. And we invite you to become a part of the journey towards helping hundreds of your associates in becoming well-equipped to more than overcome the challenges our profession faces.

Yours Truly,

Richard M. Karel
President, Smoky Mountain ASTD
