Here is a very important announcement from our Board on a great scholarship opportunity for your professional development::

  • ALC Scholarships! Get Involved…Win a Scholarship!

    The Smoky Mountain Chapter, Knoxville is now offering scholarships for those who want to become part of our chapter’s succession planning for 2009. No, we’re not sending you to college. But we will be offering four scholarships to the 2008 ASTD Leadership Conference in Arlington, VA on October 31 – November 1.

    The ASTD Leaders Conference (ALC) gathers leaders from ASTD’s 136 chapters to network and learn best practices for running their chapters. It is an opportunity to network with chapter leaders and ASTD staff, to grow the profession, and to learn what it takes to be a more successful chapter leader. To qualify for this scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:

    • You must be a member in good standing of the Smoky Mountain ASTD and ASTD National (use the Power of Two deal to accomplish this!).

    • You must be an active member of the Smoky Mountain ASTD chapter, participating on a committee of your choice and in various volunteer responsibilities throughout the year. As such, you must bring a positive contribution by your efforts to the chapter’s efforts to fulfill its mission and vision.

    • You must submit a short essay on why you would like to attend the ALC (along with a summary of your volunteer work) submitted to the Smoky Mountain ASTD Board by September 1, 2008, along with your name and contact information.

    • If awarded the scholarship, you are expected to run for a position of your choice on the Smoky Mountain ASTD Board in 2009. This means you will be committing volunteer time for one full year if you become a chapter leader. Being awarded the ALC Scholarship does in no way guarantee you a position on the Smoky Mountain ASTD Board of Directors.

    Based on the strengths of each applicant’s volunteer service and essay, the Board will choose four of our members to attend this prestigious event. We are especially interested in those who want to become a part of our chapter leadership in 2009! Good luck!

    Please note that travel by rental car and hotel accommodations will be included in this scholarship. You will be responsible for all non-conference meals. The Smoky Mountain Board will specify rental car and hotel accommodations.
